When are the abstract/title/final presentation submission deadlines?
August 9th, 2013 - Abstract and Title Submission (Primary Deadline)
September 6th, 2013 - Abstract and Title Submission (Late Poster Deadline)
October 17th, 2013 @ 5:00PM (local time) - Final Presentation Materials Submission (for accepted talks)
October 18th, 2013 :: EAS Graduate Student Symposium

How long are the talks? What happens if I go over my time limit?
Each presenter is given a total of 15 minutes for both the talk and questions. Ideally the talk should 12 minutes long, leaving 3 minutes for questions. If you go over the time limit, you will be signaled to stop within 1 minute, and the judges will deduct points from your total score.

What are the presentation awards, and how many will you be giving?
There will be a total of 3 awards: 2 for best presentation, and one for best poster. Each award for best presentation is $250 dollars, and the award for best poster is $150.

What formats of presentations do you support?
The presentation should be Microsoft Powerpoint (.ppt/x) or Adobe Acrobat (.pdf) format.

I missed the abstract deadline but would like to submit a presentation. How can I do this?
If you submit prior to the late poster deadline but after the initial deadline, you will still be considered for a poster by default. If you want to give an oral presentation, you will need to contact the committee for special approval (easgss@eas.gatech.edu). If presentation slots remain open or become available, your presentation may be approved. If you submit after the late poster deadline, your request will likely not be considered.

I can't present in the morning (or afternoon). How can I make sure my talk is in the afternoon (or morning)?
The presentation schedule is arranged on a first come first served basis, so it is best for you to submit your abstract and indicate your preferences early.

Is there a registration fee?
No, the symposium is free.

I am a student from another school working in an EAS related field and would like to give a presentation. Can I do this?
Non-EAS students may submit abstracts for both oral and poster presentations, however, oral presentations slots will preferentially be given to EAS students first. You may be asked to present a poster rather than give a talk if all time slots are filled by EAS students.

I am an undergraduate student in EAS and would like to give a presentation. Can I do this?
Yes. This year, undergraduate students can submit abstracts to participate in the GSS. To accommodate undergraduate participation, there is an extended late poster deadline (Sept. 6) to give undergraduates ample time to prepare a submission for the GSS. However, priority for oral presentations will be given to graduate students. You may be asked to present a poster rather than give a talk if all time slots are filled by graduate students.

What size should my poster be?
The maximum poster size is 4 feet by 4 feet. The poster should also be easily readable.
